Walking along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal

Walk The Canal is a sponsored walk, along the stretch of the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal running from Llangattock in the north to Five Locks Cwmbran in the south. The event is organised by the Rotary Clubs of Abergavenny, Crickhowell, Cwmbran Vale, Henllys and Pontypool and will be raising funds for Cancer Research Wales and local worthy causes.

There are five start points for the walk along the canal. All the walks finish at Goytre Wharf and culminate in an end of walk event with BBQ and refreshments.

*Times are based on walking non stop at 3 miles per hour and are therefore minimum times.

The 2024 Walk The Canal event is the second year it has been organised and will be raising money for Cancer Research Wales, and other charities. 75% of the total raised will go to Cancer Research Wales and 25% to other charitable causes supported by the Rotary clubs of Abergavenny, Crickhowell, Cwmbran Vale, Henllys and Pontypool, split equally between the five clubs.

General information about the walks….

All walks start at one of the five designated registration points, and they all finish at Goytre Wharf. Click HERE for more information about Goytre Wharf.

Maps are not required. However, if you would like to follow your progress on a map, then we recommend that you use Ordnance Survey Explorer Series Map numbers OL13 Beacons East, and OS 152 Newport and Pontypool.

The canal is accessible by wheelchair or push chair.

It is envisaged that walkers will be dropped off at their respective starting points by family members or friends and picked up again at Goytre Wharf at the end of the event. There is limited parking at Goytre Wharf for up to 70 cars. Public transport services some of the starting points and the nearest bus to Goytre Wharf is the X3 which stops at Goytre Hall.
